Unseasonable Fabrics

Even though its the end of May the weather is awfully like March so I thought I would re visit Harris Tweed.
I peeped into my stash and found one hiding that I hadn't noticed before.
Don't you just love its tiny pattern in grey pink and cream?
I do.
I had just the right shade of velvet to go with it so got to work and made this little phone pouch..or whatever.

Then I made a green one with squares,

and another green one with circles

Then I turned the template the other way and made a wider shorter purse in tans, with my favourite colour combination, orange and blue.

I had some little trigger hooks so I stitched one on each, I don't know if that was a good idea but they can be cut off if not wanted.

Group photo-

all to send away to here.

The Henley Arts Trail

If you are in the Wargrave area at the weekend my goods will be at venue 13, Joanna Sinclair's studio. Click the link above to find out more.
Before an event like this I always underestimate how long the labelling and packing takes. I was sewing till midnight then packing almost all day today. The parcel tape ran out, The printer malfunctioned, I lost the address, my fineliner pen ran out...but eventually I got them on the Post Office scales and off.

My trip to Bodnant Gardens is off, but a trip to Norwich is ON!!
Hope the weather improves.

Now, I feel like a bad blogger. One of those blogger types I mentioned before who sucks up the comments and doesn't give anything back.
I have been so busy I just haven't had time to read my ever growing list. Every time I find a nice new blog or a new commenter I add it to my google reader list.
I now have 373 items to read
I am not equal to the task.

But I do enjoy it so.

I love what you do with the velvet. It is so wonderful. I also use velvet in my artwork, but not in the way you do. I really like the look and feel of this.

blogworld really is too big after a while. i am starting to get behind myself. ha!
the texture of your velvet work is just so respectful of the fabric. it makes it more than it s.

I love Harris Tweed. Whenever I find old coats and jackets made from it I snap them up. I understand that there is a new designer and some new companies selling the tweed.
It should be considered a national treasure!

One of the reasons I like the dashboard is that you get a synopsis. Goes quicker in the reading of all those favourites.

I know what you mean, I follow between 180-200 blogs and it's difficult to keep up with the ones which post every day, let alone leave meaningful comments. But I don't think there is much point in fretting about it, or labelling oneself (or others) as 'bad bloggers' - the lovely thing about blogging is that it's a free instrument, people use it as they will, and there are no rules, even self imposed one. :)

I'm with PG in regards to blogging being a free instrument and rules. The Tweed and velvet combinations are yummy, by the way. x

These are lovely, the velvet shapes are jewel like against the tweed. The patterns, shapes and colours in your work make me think of Gustav Klimdt paintings.

Don't worry about replying Jackie! BFN.

Hi Jackie,
Thank you for my lovely button brooch, it arrived safely!:)
It reminds me of a Target brooch that were very popular with the Victorians, (I collect some vintage jewellery). The round brooch was made of metal with a design around the edge and a stone in the middle. Very similar to your fabric designs and very beautiful too!

You can't do everything. Love the phone pouches - I almost wish I had a mobile phone! Those tweeds are so pretty. Good luck at the next show - if the weather is still bad it may bring more customers in.

Blogging without obligation. Pat them and wrap them and mark them as 'read'.

I love the textures on the phone holders. - lovely colours Jackie.

When are you off to Norwich?

They look great. My brother in law and his wife live in Wargrave so I will pass on details to them of the event.

Beautiful pouches and gorgeous colours. Enjoy your trip to Norwich, it's a lovely city. Good luck with Henley and don't worry about replying. Blog on your own terms, it does take you over if you're not careful and it's not worth losing sleep over. It's supposed to be fun! :o)

Fabulous little purses - I think the pinky red one is my favourite.

Isn't this weather atrocious? I'm so in need of sun and warmth!

Hi Jackie - I love what you do with velvet and tweed - they look so good together and you have a great eye for composition.
Love, the green one's! And I have a ' thing' about circles.
I try my best to keep up with the blog's I follow but know it is not always possible. So don't be too hard on yourself.
Sounds like you are very busy at the moment - wish I could get to Joanna Sinclair's studio to see your wares.
Have a great weekend!

I love your embroidery, I do a lot of sewing and I find it really interesting to see other techniques. I love your use of colour - and I don't think tweed is unseasonable, look at the spring colours you used!

I love the combination of the soft elegant velvet with the more utilitarian and rougher tweed. Beautiful.
