At Last

DRAW DEADLINE 5PM (British time)TODAY WED. 13TH MAY
Entries for draw closed now, but still feel free to comment.
results later.

Have you noticed, if you live in the UK, how the weather forecasters always say what lovely weather we're having when its nice in London?
Well I live in the North. The wind is howling around our moorland village and creeping in through all the gaps in our old house, one of the highest in that village.
The central heating has broken down and we are COLD.

To take my mind off it I am having my bloggiversay at last.
One whole year of blogging(and a couple of weeks).
One hundred and forty five posts, 2,528 comments, 110 followers, 233 subscribers in reader, I don't know how many photographs, 365 days of fun.
Because of my blog I have
  • coped over the recent sad days with your support and comments.
  • enjoyed my trip to Marrakech all over again when I relived it on the blog.
  • been encouraged to pursue pieces of work through the reception they have had here.
  • Found lots of lovely friends in blogland
  • received amazing gifts from far and wide
  • had an exciting development (can't mention it yet)publishing related.
  • been invited to exhibit in an arts trail
  • sold lots of pieces of my work on etsy and by requests.
I only had two nasty comments all year ..actually one was an e mail the other was from 'anonymous' who didn't believe we were really friends.
Not a great deal of spam except the usual Chinese stuff.

At times I couldn't work blogger but you were all there to help.
I learnt how to link, how to stop links, how to use Google reader, and how to install stat counter.

Now for the thank you. Because I really want to say a big thank you to everyone I have communicated with in any way.
I said I would make a special thing for the giveaway but my creativity has been under pressure lately so this is what I'll do.
I am going to draw 5 names from 'the hat'.
The first name can choose one anything from my etsy shop or from this post.
The other 4 names can choose a little round brooch (now featured on Cuteable)from the 21 below .
(I put the other picture of these on flickr and its been a great success going straight into 'explore' and getting loads of comments. Its great but I don't know why. I preferred the one of them in their box.)

I am offering this piece as first prize but you may not like it.

Its about 8 inches square and is based on Ancient Greek Motifs.
really much nicer than it appears here.
But as I said, you can choose.

I've finished these pieces as brooches now.

Because of their irregular edges I couldn't stitch the back on so have had to rely on a combination of bondaweb and pva, but they are up for grabs in the giveaway.
All you have to do is leave a comment here. You could tell me which is your favourite post if you like but you don't have to.
Now I don't want anyone saying to themselves ' I won't comment because it looks like I only do it if I want something'.
No .
And come on you lurkers. You are just as important as the regular commentors.
Even if its your first visit, feel free.
All those lovely people who commented in the last fortnight when I was so sad. Leave another.I would esecially love to include you.
All the regulars as well..come on!
I wish I could make something for everyone but I can't.
I'll do the draw midweek. Wednesday evening perhaps.

Now although I wasn't feeling creative, I was committed this week to decorating our church for a wedding today, so last Thursday I worked my socks off and bunged all these flowers in various arrangements.I was absolutely shattered by 5.30 having set off at 10.30 am to buy the flowers and been on my feet all day. I haven't slept very well since 'you know what' and it takes its toll.

The bride is a girl I used to teach. She and my son were schoolfriends. She often looked after our dogs when we went away, until she got her own,and she is absolutely mad about animals.
I hadn't seen her for a few years when one day last year I was walking Willow up the hill towards home and a white van screeched to a halt and out jumped Yvonne and her Adam, delighted to see Willow again.

So it was little surprise to see how she arrived at church.

Bless!

Barefoot too.
Shoes put on later.
She loved the flowers.
They are honeymooning in Ireland so they can take their dogs.

I've only recently discovered your blog and your etsy store. But I love your work. And was very touched by your posts re: your dog. Looking forward to following you through a new year.

I saw these on flickr first and had to check out your blog...these are so vibrant and fun! That second "irregular" one really caught my eye. And about the weather...well, I live on the so-called Sunshine Coast of British Columbia (Canada) but we've had an incredibly long winter and all our flowers are about a month behind schedule. So thanks for showing your amazing work ~ it cheered me right up!

Patricia said...

You should be here with us in our heavy 80 and then some heat and humidity, but it is supposed to cool a little soon. Your year has been a good one and you should pat yourself on the back for all of your accomplishments! Your work is fantastic as is your generosity.
Thank you for ending the posting with this lovely message of spring, love, and renewal.

I'd feel so lucky to win anything you made!! Happy blogiversary to you (I could put something here to say that I was singing it, but that's too much for the internet world to handle).
btw...are those triangular-y flowers calla lilies? Whatever they are, they look like they smell heavenly.

Vicki W said...

Happy Blogiversary! I love checking in on your blog.

Jackie said...

Here I am inflating the comments but
I just wanted to thank the first few commenters, point out the differences in climate between us and to say that the triangley flowers are arum lilies, unfortunately they don't really smell.

I loved the Marrakesch (spelling??) posts, that's when I "joined" you, and then absolutely fell off my chair with laughter at the "cat's nostril" piccy. May you continue to enjoy blogging. x

I feel the same about the weather man, they forget Wales too, mind we mainy aways get rain, so if they do mention us they are often right! I love the main piece, ovey balance and ove the edges too. The 3rd brooch down is lovely too because of the edges.

Happy Bloggiversary!

I find all your posts interesting and your work and photos beautiful. The highlight for me wasn't found on the blog but on a cold day in December in Preston last year when you spent an age teaching Francesca and I to wet felt. Oh, and of course calling my work homemade, still makes me smile! I think it's the finest compliment.

If I get picked (but hey, what are the chances), I'd love a little round brooch in blue.

Fingers crossed!

Well, haven't you been busy! Lovely brooches - they look just like cupcakes? And gorgeous flowers too - lucky bride to have you to do the flowers. Can anyone tell me why the BBC weather 'thing' just does a little 'slalom' around the North West? I guess it's because we don't matter - but it still makes me cross!!!Wrap up warm ...

Hi I would also love to win - so sorry it is cold - it is also cold down here in New Zealand but our heating is working well Rebecca in New Zealand

Heather said...

Do hope your heating will soon be fixed - we had to wait a couple of weeks for ours to be done recently and I have been permanently cold. Here in the south west it has been blowing like mad and wet, and I can't believe we sat in the garden a month ago having lunch in the sunshine. Mad climate. Happy bloggyversary and any piece of your work would be a first prize - it is all so lushious (is that the right spelling?) I would love my name to be put into the hat. So glad you have had such benefits from blogging - I have found the same. Your wedding flower arrangements are beautiful and what a great way to arrive for your wedding though I would have needed a cardy too!!

As for prizes...well, yes, we all want one!! No pressure then......

I'm very new to all this internet stuff - blogging etc. but love it and I think you are marvellous that you have learned so much in one year of blogging.

In Australia for half the year the weatherman says 'an afternoon storm for Darwin' Oh if only it came that regularly!! The rest of the year they say 'sunny and 33' and they're pretty much right.

I'd love to win anything you made, it would be a tough decision to choose.
Congrats on a year of blogging and looking forward to the next.

Many congratulations on your first year of blogging Jackie - and your etsy and intriguing-sounding publishing success. I've enjoyed reading DDC so much andthe gorgeous colours in your work have leapt out at me and helped to cheer me on tricky days sometimes.

I think you've left one of the funniest comments I've ever had - on my silly vervet monkey post - about an elderly lady after her parky sea swim - I was scrolling through my archives and found it and it gave me a great belly laugh - thankyou!

I'd love to be popped into the draw if that's OK.

Happy blogsville. I agree with you about the weather; being a Northern girl too I know we're used to it but it is a little parky today! I love the first prize as well as everything else so would be happy with anything... My favourite posting was also Marrakech but I do enjoy your chat.

Weeeell... yes, I am commenting because I would love to win a piece of your work. I don't often comment on blogs because, TBH, I would be here all day if I did, but I do find other people's lives and work absolutely fascinating and everyone is so friendly. I did post a comment when you lost your dear dog, but other than that I have nothing special to say except keep up the wonderful work - it's inspirational!

I love your blog and I love your work, but I rarely comment on blogs for fear of sounding gushing. But of course even talented people sometimes need (preferably positive) feedback, so I'll try not to lurk any more!

PS Totally right about the weather forecast - in Scotland, we even find the BBC has distorted the UK map to make Scotland look about the size of Yorkshire. (And NB all Met Office forecasters, what are "bits and pieces of rain"?!)

What bugs me is that all the ads are trying to sell us flowers that would never survive this dry heat in summer and snow blowers we have no use for in the winter! My eldest nephew is a weatherman for a big TV station in (another) large city and I love him dearly but really weather people know nothing of reality!

Congratulations on your blogaversary, Jackie. Thank you for doing it! HUGS, Marilyn
