Hewlett Packard Rip Off.

Resist felt, originally uploaded by dogdaisy92.

Apologies for showing this again almost two years after I first showed it.
I shouldn't really be blogging as I have nothing to say but am very miffed that my laptop has bitten the dust.

Well..actually its only the screen light but just have a guess at what Hewlett Packard will charge as s standard fee for a repair?
Go on.
Just have a guess.
I bet you can't.
Well?

Two hundred and fifty something pounds.
Thats TWOHUNDREDANDFIFTYSOMETHING... I THINK IT WAS NINE..POUNDS.....

That's because in our throw-away-society, the company would rather you simply buy a new one instead of repair what you have.
(Yes, i have *many* "conspiracy theories"...)
=-)

For a screen light?!!! They don't want the job obviously and would rather you bought a new one but I bet it wouldn't be HP next time?!

Oh thats shocking....my sisters laptop was stood on and the screen was broken, the insurance company paid out for a new one without a sniff!

I love the felt, like craters ona technicoloured moon.

Ignore HP. we had a similar problem a while ago, the thing that converts the image onto the screen is short lived on laptops as the lids are opened and shut (as one would expect), we went with some small firm in Preston, can't remember their name or there is a good laptop repair place in Colne or try the one Karen suggested. Good luck!

Wendy you are right - that's why it was cheaper for me to buy a newer model printer in a box with a set of cartridges, rather than new print cartridges for my old one!
Jackie, I'll join you in the 'fed up with computers society'. Our PC was affected by McAfee updates and it's taken four days to put it right!

Oh my...all that money just for a LIGHT? That is totally highway robbery! Typical of the way electronics are these days though - they have built-in obsolescence so you are forced to buy a new one.

Well I won't be buying another HP thats for sure.

Maybe it's time for a Mac. All my girls now have one - that's 3. I will wait and see what happens to this one.

Oh Jackie, so sorry for you. As you know, I had my own problems with a Dell just out of its warranty, so THEY will never see any money of mine ever...........

Ridiculous. Guess thats modern day living. The problem being if we accept it and pay for it they get away with it.
A x

I would write to HP and tell them you have just bought a Sony, and will be changing your printer to an Epson as soon as the ink runs out on the one you have. If we all did that maybe they would take notice...

Oh I could scream for you Jackie ...thats so annoying! Hope you soon get something sorted.
Nice to see your lovely felting again though.... :-)

Holey Gamoley!! That is a bit much. I'd take someone else's advice and try a local repair place. HP went Big Biz a while back. Hummpff.

PS **LOVE** the felt.

I bet you're spitting feathers Jackie - that's disgusting. Do hope you get something sorted soon and not so expensive. I love the piece of felt on this post - gorgeous little pockets that my fingers are itching to poke into.

It never ends does it. Its OK keep on at us to go green, its companies like these that should be fined when they do this, and a lot. perhaps they may have a rethink then!

I changed the entire screen on my SONY VAIO myself Sony wanted nearly a thousand euros, but I got a screen and instructions sent over to France from England for about 160 pounds. The firm I used was ROLTA - might be worth giving them a try!

Maggi said...

That is really extortionate and I agree with Wendy and Marigold Jam that is is probably because they just want you to buy a new one

Jackie said...

It seems everyone agrees with me. I won't be buying a ew one from HP and I won't be getting them to do the repair.
Pearly Queen I am in awe of your technical skills!

It makes me so cross Jackie, nothing is made to last, we have just got a new laptop - we were told they are only expected to last a year or two! and Irons dont get me started we have to change our iron every year! perhaps your other half will let you use his mac?????

I feel for ya! About 2 years ago, for my birthday, Charlie got me this Shiny Pretty Ruby-Colored Fast Computer...a fancier one than I ever would have bought myself. I had it for about two months, and then one day I was playing fetch with Ajak/x...he ran under the table, and as he was running, the little loop-thingie on his harness caught on the cord and yanked the laptop to the ground...which scared him...so he ran...dragging it behind him (picture a slow-motion "Nooooooooo" coming from me)

The screen? Completely shattered.

We dished out a significant chunk of change for a new screen...only to discover that when it had hit the ground, the motherboard had cracked as well, and the computer was useless!

$1,300.00 down the drain.
