UPDATE: I have just discovered I now have 800 blog followers. Thank you all so much for signing up.
I wonder if I'll ever get 1000?
(And I wonder why?!)
What a wonderful early Christmas present I had last week.
It reminds me of the 'Handwritten' fun we had a couple of years ago. Do you remember? Click here to see.
One of my friends from way back when we were at college, slipped into my Christmas card, a letter I wrote to her on my 21st Birthday.
Its a snapshot of my life on that day, 19th July 1972 and so lovely to read now, all these years later.
Handwritten of course on Lancashire County Council headed paper from the Architects department where I was working as a student in my summer holidays. We had finished college in Twickenham and a flat that 5 of us shared, so I suppose that was why I'd sent her a cheque...' for £1.50, but please don't cash it till the end of the week or it might bounce'....no change there then except the amounts involved!
In the letter I am 'playing secretaries ' and have nothing to do but answer the phone, and am pretty peeved that I've been moved from Div. Admin II office to Div. Admin. I office because the 'talent' was better in Div II and they'd promised to take me to the NALGO club on my birthday at lunchtime, but now I wouldn't see them!! I was looking forward to all my Aunties and My Grannie coming for tea. What an innocent way to spend my 21st Birthday. All my friends were in Twickenham (or back at their far flung homes) so I was with family and perfectly happy about it.
My main present had been a sewing Machine ..but..my dad had given me £50 which I was putting into the Abbey National to accumulate enough for a car! (That took two more years to raise the £125 my first car, and old Morris 1100, cost)
Ah..happy days. I dare say we'll be looking back on blogs in the future to see our pasts won't we?
Here is my past being made.

Very neat, looking forward to the photo. I've only had my blog about 3 years, but already enjoy looking back. I imagine myself reminiscing with it when I'm old :)
I can't believe the handwritten blog was 2 years ago! Where does time go? I love that you have friends that go back, to share memories with. Hope you are having a lovely holiday season.
Those two years have flown by. How lovely to still be in contact with friends from one's youth. I have lost touch with mine as we moved so much.
I celebrated my 21st birthday expecting our first child so there was no need for a big party. You could say that I was the big party!
That's a brilliant thing to receive Jackie! I was hunting in our attic for something the other week and found a big shoe box full of letters going way back to my teens. There are lots of little notes from my best friend and other friends I had at school. Then all my correspondence with a boy I knew from our village who joined the army. We wrote regularly to each other for about four years. Then there is more correspondence from my friends while I was a student and then some from friends further afield that I met on my travels. I must have organised the box at some point in my life as it has survived five house moves. I don't feel ready to delve into yet though. I'll keep it all for when I'm a lot older or when my daughter becomes a teenager and thinks she knows it all and that I know nothing : )
It's a shame we just don't receive as many letter s as we used to. It all seemed to peter out about ten years ago. I loved having pen pals and lived for the post arriving! I used to enjoy the cycle along to the post box too.
My parents kept my letters home from Uni - it will be fun to read them again one of these days..
What fun! Isn't it amazing to look back and see what we thought was so important and now I sometimes wonder what I was thinking?!?
I've kept all the letters my brother wrote to me when he was in the army. Actually they were more like short notes and always ended ' must go now we're going off on exercise' I've asked him about all the exercises he went on, apparently it should have said off to the pub, but he thought Mum and Dad might have read the letters!
Love Hetty in the snow, shes really enjoying it, had very little of it down here so we've that pleasure to come. Lots of rain though which we're not very fond of.
Good site! I truly love how it is simple on my eyes and the data are well written. I’m wondering how I might be notified whenever a new post has been made. Have a great day!
I like your blog post. Keep on writing this type of great stuff. I'll make sure to follow up on your blog in the future.
A wonderful post Jackie. I am with Heather re your friend still being in touch.
Loved watching Hetty in the snow and watching that tail wagging! Happy Christmas!!!
I love the video!
Not much better than a dog in snow.
Congratulations on your many followers.
I am one, too!
Hulloo. I am going to be 801. I thought that reaching the grand total of 50 followers was a reason to celebrate...! Off to read some of your past posts, have a Merry Christmas, Ax
I remember the excitement of getting post in my pigeon hole at college. Email isn't quite the same somehow. :o)

you're famous woman!
Good work! I like this post. Thanks.
How wonderful to get a letter from all those years ago - and weren't those such innocent times! I had just started work as a kindergarten teacher and my big night out was a meal in a coffee shop with two friends! Hetty in the snow is just gorgeous! She is having so much fun. Merry Christmas to you. Glad I am one of your followers.
I've been reading blogs for several year now but started my own blog in May this year as a diary with photos - so when I'm older and greyer and living in my retirement home I can look back to see what I used to do !

What an amazing gift to receive! Poignant too I suppose. Hetty in the snow was SO sweet - I just want to cuddle her.
Yes, I relember that one too! What a cute little video of your dog - makes me want my own [dog not video].
Looking back at memories is so fantastic isn't it? I get so much inspiration from my youth.
Mind you, I wasn't the fully upstanding citizen I am now back then, so there's a lot to go on!
How fun it is to read something written when we were young...lucky you to have a friend that would keep something like that. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Cos you will...only a matter of a short while.
Have a wonderful Christmas
Hugs and love Heike x
