This is not my work

Just a record of  a super but very tiring day out to The Festival Of Quilts last Thursday.
I didn't buy a programme so I can't tell you who these were by. I loved this called 'Colour comes to the back of Beyond'

The traditional quilts section had some beautifully made pieces . I liked this one especially because in my UFO bag from the 1970s I have one using these shapes.
The subject of this picture was close to my heart. The quilting stitches were all sorts of words like 'half a pound of sausages' and 'Fat' but I think they were all positive, right down to 'Chocolate coated statins'.
I once had an idea to make a piece about being diabetic, with a lot of text , but I think this says it all.
Beautiful quilts by Pia Welsch (?) with machine embroidered motifs on the surface.
Fabulously shaded pictorial piece. The detail was amazing.
I loved these fish. There were 4 altogether, and below , one called 'Manhattan' drew me in.

The one below which I love was made from knitted pieces and looked very comfortable.
We had a bloggy meet up and the one on the front row who looks like a barrage balloon is yours truly.  I've replaced that unflattering pic with one I've pinched from Sue K! Hope you don't mind Sue.
Left to Right: Julie, Mirim, Carol McFee,Carolyn Saxby,Margaret Roberts,Me, Gina, Chrissie, Viv Margaret, and Sue is seated.
It was great fun. We all said hello gleefully with much hugging like old friends, and  chatted and then stood about wondering what to do!

Inevitably we went our separate ways and then..AND THEN.....
these.

They bowled me over.
Each and every one was a stunner.
But the prices. This below was enormous and was a mere £500 and some.
Its telling that this mans hand is a blur.
These smaller one were around  £100 and some were well under

It makes me embarrassed about  what I do and what I charge.

It was a grand day out.

Wow Jackie what amazing work! It must have been so inspiring to walk around and see all this wonderful artwork. I love to look at other artists work too!
I really like the diabetic one as I too am diabetic and having trouble switching to insulin use (I am terrified of needles), so it really touched my heart!
And just so you know I consider your work to be so inspiring and beautiful, worth every penny you charge!
Have a wonderful weekend....

A fabulous blog recording our "grand day out". The painted lady is the work of our blogging friend Annabel Rainbow and I was so pleased to see she was "highly commended" for her quilt. It was wonderful. I loved all the quilts too and can't wait to go again next year

Lots of love to my huggy friend
xoxo

I was there on Thursday and it was overwhelming - so much to see (so much to buy!) - but I didn't get round it all. Going again tomorrow though. Great.

Everything you have shown us is truly amazing. It's hard to imagine the amount of skill and time that has gone into each piece. The judges must find it harder each year to come to their decisions. Lovely to meet up with other bloggers - you all looked so happy and must have had a super day.

I had a great day out there too, but looking at your pictures I evidently missed a lot!

Golly, that IS cheap and what fine work! I am not mad keen on pictorial quilts, but I do like the more traditional ones, especially the knitted one.

Love your choice, "the lady" is the best! (though not the traditional for me, sorry)
You sure had a great day! (I wanted to go two years ago when a quilt of mine was there, but it was a bit too expensive...)
These men are underpayed, that's for sure!

It was a grand day out indeed although I didn't see half of what you've posted. Completely missed the tentmakers of cairo... stunning!

A fabulous day out Jackie and the icing on the cake was meeting all our fellow bloggers :-) The Cairo tentmakers were amazing and their prices were way too low. I couldn't believe how fast that guy was stitching.

Hello!! I made it to your blog and lovely it is too.

Hello, and delighted to meet you. Thank you for your email, and I'm very honoured indeed that you've chosen to show my quilt on your blog, thank you. I started my comment with an explanation of said quilt, but it's turned out to be too long, so will write about it on my blog where there's a bit more space, if anyone wants to read the story behind it. www.grumpyandmad.blogspot.com (aka The Happy Apple!)

I just have to say that those tentmakers seem VERY underpriced to me. They were probably priced at the same level as they would have been back home, but it looks to me as if they were selling themselves short; they were so beautiful.

Hi Jackie, thank you so much for your exhibition impresssions. Unfortunately I couldn´t go to Birmingham, even though theres a very small piece of mine.
You made a questionmark to Pia Welsh´s name. She is one of the famous ladies of the german scene.
Thanks for sharing the pics

I'm very happy that you used my "security photo"! It was so fabulous to meet you and the others. I'm appalled at how much I managed to miss, though. It does seem that one day is not enough, but could I cope with two? I haven't recovered from Thursday yet! Mind, did return to Brum yesterday, but to see friends and DH drove. It WAS a Grand Day Out!

How lovely to see some of the quilts i didn't get to see; as usual, a great show with stunning work. I've been patchworking on and off since 1970 and I love the contemporary work that's going on now.

Sorry to have missed you on Thursday but glad you had a good day. I continue to be amazed at photos of work that is being posted and that I missed, even after being there for 3 days. I have a feeling that I missed the whole of the 'Pictorial' section!

A marvelous show - I would have loved seeing it in person, but your photos are the next best thing. Each of the pieces you've shown is a piece of art!

The first quilt is called "Quilt show in the outback" (or similar) made by Pam Holland of Adelaide, Australia.

Pam was here in Dublin for a few days after the Festival of quilts and come to visit my house. I gathered a group of quilting friends and we were amazed at the work. We got to examine the quilts, ask questions and hear how they were made and why. I even got to take photos of the quilts on my living room floor. What a morning.....you can see more of Pams quilts at

pamhollanddesigns.typepad.com

You can even see us in my kitchen at lunch.I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I was also delighted to see some of the quilts from the Irish Patchwork Society exhibition to celebrate our 30th Birthday.
