Meaty chunks and soaking up the clutter.

Sometimes you want to be creative but it just doesn't work.
Its been a struggle these last two weeks .
Sitting at my sewing machine and trying to produce good stuff with the ironing and tidying demons on either shoulder is tricky. I've resisted them as far as I can but its still extremely distracting.
After all, our house has absorbed this:

and a lot more, albeit temporarily.

While it was busy absorbing, my in laws arrived unexpectedly.
They are lovely people but have the tidiest cleanest house and garden in the Northwest.
Oh well. Good job we are not all the same.
I made some felt at the felt group last week and it looks like meat.

I wanted a palette change but essence of steak was what I came up with.
Its not too bad in small doses with a spoonful of sugar to help it down.

But does this work have the same 'retro' feel to it?

Or do these things look like hair ornaments from 'Strictly Come Dancing'?
Or decorative blobs from a tawdry theatrical painter?

I like the above one best but it makes me think 40's night club!

Is it just me?

I even had a difficult job getting some of the 'usual' done, but here's one just listed on ETSY.

Now for some news: I received some more purse frames from Hongkong so am now tooled up for purse production. I hope it goes well. Watch this space.
second bit of news: I am in the video of Art and Garden on youtube but if you want to see me you'll have to root it out for yourself. If you find it you deserve the gratification of seeing me as I am.
Like my Grandma.
But fatter.
“O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us. To see oursels as others see us!”
Well that 'pow'r' is Youtube.

I really like these, and love the colours! Don't be too critical of them! As you say, we're all different.
We have extremely tidy and houseproud next door neighbours, and I think we are rather disappointing for them with the daisies in our lawn and ivy up the walls!

Ah Jackie, I found you! In amongst the old men... You are a silly girl, you look lovely! Very sleek hair :-)

I think you are a little hard on yourself. It is all too easy to be self critical when the flowing waters of inspiration seem more lik a trickle. I like your felt, and although it is a different set of colours to your prefered palate, I think they may appeal more to some. Colour is deeply personal, no rights or wrongs, just preferences. xJ

I love that on that little film your caption reads 'Jackie Cardy, Obsessive Embroiderer.' It was a treat to see you on there!

Well I really like your new pieces.
Don't you just hate having to clean the house when there is art to be made?

I love all of them as usual, but that first one is awesome!

How did you find room for all that stuff? Your new colour scheme is every bit as gorgeous as the others - just different and those new pieces are fantastic. Congrats on your news - I'll try to find you.

Oooo I found the film too, what a lovely event to be part of.

As for tidiness, it's not something I do... well not on a regular basis!

And the new colours - I think they're beautiful. I like rusty tarnished hues against the blues and teals - colours I'm very comfortable with.

Yes, it is just you!! They are great especially the orange one. They look like. . . well, like Jackie's work. Sound to me like you need some time offfrom EVERYTHING. Can't you get your son to do the ironing in return for having taken in all his stuff again?

I love the blue one too - I can see that they are leaves but they also got me thinking about seed heads, or beans in a pod too? Are those motifs/shapes you could use?

I like these--simpler but still rich and alluring, and the colour combinations are great.

My house periodically goes the hell with all the kids and dust coming in windows and me up to my eyeballs. It's hard because I like a clean house, but if I clean non-stop to keep it like I want it, then I will get no work in the studio done, so you just have to make your peace with the dust and clutter! Love the new designs. I personally like the combo of cool and warm colours together....Sharon

Your work is always so amazing, and your latest creations are extra-amazing! So unique. I love the colors you use, the retro feel, the textures....sublime!

"Steak" ????? You're a hoot. Never thought of meat! More like..."Fall" colors. I personally love the word "subjective." Re excess stuff, there's a houseful from two boys here. Someone should give you a big hug. Resist housecleaning perfection bug and try to do the minimum to retain sanity. Keep on keeping on with what gives you happiness. You have something great going on.

Personally, I quite like the "hot orange/meaty" colors...which is odd for me, as I tend towards the cooler shades normally.

Off to browse Youtube!

I like the piece with the green leaf centre best - just divine. x

They are lovely. Very autumnal - fallen leaves, and seed heads, and those lovely textured twiggy bits that drop from trees, with the bark peeling off, and lichens growing.
