Felt.
I made this large piece two years ago.
It had lovely areas of overlapping colours and I knew I wanted to stitch it.
But its too large a piece with too many similar sized areas for an overall design.
I've been looking at it for ages wondering what to do with it. So I cut a little square off it and set to work.
Perhaps theres a bit too much stitching..but still...its only a start.
I like the details.
The colours speak to me of my childhood home. 1950s colours.
So after the first one I tried another.
Just four inches square.
I like this better.
I left more empty space where the 'joy' of the woolly combinations is visible.
I have a lot more squares cut ready to sew. A close up shows why I love felt.
Here are two I did a couple of weeks ago,
Sorry the details are the wrong way up.
Each of these pieces is about 4 inches square.
My mood is much better this week. Thank you for all your comments. It wasn't the hot weather making me low, I love it these days, (but not too hot) Its just because my husband is working away a lot for all the summer so we can't go and paddle in the sea. When the weather is lovely it just underlines it.
My finger is still sore..arthritis. Old age.
Anyway ....this coming weekend , for the very last time ....
ART AND GARDEN.
Millbarn, Goosefoot Close, Samlesbury Bottoms, Saturday and Sunday.
Its a super garden with artists and crafts people, refreshments, the river, and I've been having a stand there almost from the start about 10 years ago. It will be sad not to go again. Its been fantastic. Lets hope for good weather .
Its your LAST CHANCE to attend!
So I've been quite busy getting ready for that, but not as busy as I should have been.
Our embroidery group who meet in the studio at Millbarn, are having an exhibition in four and a half weeks and my pieces are not yet made. I have one or two things available but in the absence of a theme I can't really decide what to exhibit. I certainly have to make at least two more. I should be in a panic but I'm not.
I will be in two weeks when nothing has changed....
Your 4 inch felt and stitch paintings are really lovely. I admire the freedom you have with free motion...you take it to a high level.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.

Gosh they are all lovely! Art and Garden sounds like a wonderful event....Missing a hubby can make anyone feel down....hang in there! This too shall pass.....Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no not too much stitching. They are lovely as usual. How can there be too much stitching? No second guessing - we all do it (me too), so it's nice to have feedback from another second guesser. As far as hubby being away think of each day as one day closer to his return, it's easier that way. Love your work Jackie!
ReplyDeleteHi, Jackie - I just have to say, I relate to your mood - feeling somewhat the same since my husband is also gone for the summer, off in the Pacific Ocean on a freighter. I am grateful for our animals and for my art, but still sometimes I just pine for that companion of mine!
ReplyDeleteLove your felt stitchings. xxoo, sus
Jackie, I just love your little squares. You are SO talented, seeing potential I would never see in the original felt. Keep inspiring us all! All the best for a truly delightful summer.
ReplyDeleteFabulous little pieces and glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThese little stitched squares are delightful and I think would sell extremely well. I think you have just the right amount of stitch, though I know what you mean about stitching on felt - it is so lovely in it's own right.
ReplyDeleteArt in the Garden sounds a lovely event and I hope the weather behaves itself. Also that your husband will be home again soon.
The small squares are lovely. Good luck with the Art and Garden event. Is it the last time it will be held or the last time you will attend?
ReplyDeleteAll the pieces look as though you enjoyed doing them - that's always a good sign!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful embroidered pieces Jackie! They really are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI hope that your fayre goes well.. hopefully it will be dry and sunny for you.
Sorry to hear your hubby has to be away a lot.. I know how much I miss mine if he is away.

The little 4 inch squares a lovely - great colour combos. Are you going to mount/frame them? x Jo
ReplyDeleteYou have such a lovely way with colour, your pieces are so beautiful. The stitching complements the felt so well.Good luck with art in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI am ooohing and ahhhing at your work, I can see oak leaves and moss and all manner of lovelyness.
ReplyDeleteYour felt squares are beautiful.
ReplyDeletejust beautiful! You are such an inspiration
ReplyDeleteVery lovely:) It amazes me how you see all those beautiful images in the felt. Take care:)
ReplyDeleteI love these little pieces, the colours are gorgeous and your stitching has a wonderful balance between hand and machine.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about longing to go to the seaside, I have the same problem this year, we have 2 allotments now and my husband is super keen so we have to have very short trips in our motor home which is frustrating when the weather's lovely.
These are beautiful - the colours, particularly that steely blue are wonderful together. They would make fantastic little framed works of art in their own right.
ReplyDeleteFour inches is the perfect size I think - gives enough area for lots of stitching and yet lets the beautiful felt show through. Wish I lived close enough to come to the show. So sorry that your finger is still sore - hopefully it will soon pass and you'll be good as new.
ReplyDeleteHope the weekend went well.
ReplyDeleteI saw one of these when you posted it to FB the other week, but I didn't realise it was from such a big piece. Each of these smaller ones look wonderful. Are you going to mount them together like a mosaic on a black background? Or use for something else?
Your work is always so beautiful Jackie, those four inch squares have me drooling. I hope the Fayre went well. I always used to find I needed a special project when my husband was away for any length of time. Thankfully he rarely goes away on work these days. Cheers
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!
