Adventures in Embroidery

Here is the reason I was making little pieces of embroidery.
Fear of failing in felt.  I have a number of pieces of felt made specifically to embroider for our upcoming exhibition.
This..before I embroidered it...is one of them.
I was terrified to make a start and ruin it.
But over the last few days, instead of standing over it and wringing my hands I got to work.
I started with machine embroidery and have spent many hours on it doing hand stitch.
I will just say this..overall I'm pleased with the outcome.
I wish I'd left enough time to 'design' but as everything, the exhibition has been a 'distant elephant'. Very small from a long way off but large and scary as it gets close..and its close.
And I have more pieces to do.
Although I think this is finished now, its just a start.
Enjoy the pictures.

  4. I'm so encouraged to hear your self-doubts and just plowing ahead anyway. As one who struggles with teh same, it's truly heartening to see you succeed nicely! I LOVE the addition of the hand work and trust this will begin another wonderful series.

  5. Oh how lovely Jackie! I agree with Jeanette it is encouraging to hear that you struggle with self doubts the same as i do. And that sometimes we just need to put our heads down and get to it......Hugs! deb

  6. Life is full of distant elephants! I love this piece and you certainly haven't ruined it, but made it even more beautiful. I have pieces of fabric that are almost too lovely to 'spoil' with stitch and am nervous of doing anything with them. I should take a leaf out of your book and just go for it.

  16. Absolutely beautiful! The colours are so peaceful and pretty.

Fear of spoiling a piece of work can be paralising (ask me how I know) and the awful thing is that once you get over the fear and actually make a start, you're then cross with yourself for every being afraid and for wasting the time!

  20. Beautiful! Very inspiring. I love the near/far elephant analogy...I too have an elephant that's getting a bit too big for comfort right now!

  22. Absolutely stunning, I love this piece, for me it has a feeling of Art Nouveau, my favourite art period. The colours are amazing and the addition of the stitch is perfect. Good luck with the rest.

  23. Jackie, these take my breath away! They are gorgeous, just lovely. I do hope you did really well at the show. I loved the pictures, and wish I could give your little terrier a head-scratch - he looked as if he was enjoying his outing. I'll bet he got plenty of attention.

I apologise for not being able to reply to all of them. It makes it harder if you are 'no reply', but I do value each comment.
