Here is the reason I was making little pieces of embroidery.
Fear of failing in felt. I have a number of pieces of felt made specifically to embroider for our upcoming exhibition.
This..before I embroidered it...is one of them.
I was terrified to make a start and ruin it.
But over the last few days, instead of standing over it and wringing my hands I got to work.
I started with machine embroidery and have spent many hours on it doing hand stitch.
I will just say this..overall I'm pleased with the outcome.
I wish I'd left enough time to 'design' but as everything, the exhibition has been a 'distant elephant'. Very small from a long way off but large and scary as it gets close..and its close.
And I have more pieces to do.
Although I think this is finished now, its just a start.
Enjoy the pictures.

a stunning piece of work, alison
Saw a bit on facebook and had to come to have a good look - ooooooh, how luscious it looks!
I have just caught up on your previous post, how sad the event won't ever be held again, it looks wonderful. Cheers
Another beautiful piece. This is fabulous
I'm so encouraged to hear your self-doubts and just plowing ahead anyway. As one who struggles with teh same, it's truly heartening to see you succeed nicely! I LOVE the addition of the hand work and trust this will begin another wonderful series.
Oh how lovely Jackie! I agree with Jeanette it is encouraging to hear that you struggle with self doubts the same as i do. And that sometimes we just need to put our heads down and get to it......Hugs! deb
Beautiful! x
Life is full of distant elephants! I love this piece and you certainly haven't ruined it, but made it even more beautiful. I have pieces of fabric that are almost too lovely to 'spoil' with stitch and am nervous of doing anything with them. I should take a leaf out of your book and just go for it.
These are fantastic, love them.
This is beautiful and I don't know why you are worried about design - this is so like a fantasy garden - Gilli @ Tasty Textiles
Lovely! Your work is so unusual (in a good way of course!)
I think it's beautiful Jackie. I so understand your worries about ruining it but carrying on anyway. You certainly didn't ruin it!!
Another beautiful piece of work. x Jo

Beautiful, beautiful work.
This is a stunning piece of work.
Absolutely beautiful! The colours are so peaceful and pretty.
Fear of spoiling a piece of work can be paralising (ask me how I know) and the awful thing is that once you get over the fear and actually make a start, you're then cross with yourself for every being afraid and for wasting the time!
Lovely Jacky. The hand embroidery and beading make it look so tactile. I want to stroke it!
Wow this is beautiful! All the hard work you put into this piece definitely paid off :)
This is lovely Jackie!
Your work is so beautiful!
The felt alone is gorgeous ,but you have made it even better with your 'additions'.
Beautiful! Very inspiring. I love the near/far elephant analogy...I too have an elephant that's getting a bit too big for comfort right now!
It looks lovely!
Lovely, it has a jewel-like quality.
Absolutely stunning, I love this piece, for me it has a feeling of Art Nouveau, my favourite art period. The colours are amazing and the addition of the stitch is perfect. Good luck with the rest.
Jackie, these take my breath away! They are gorgeous, just lovely. I do hope you did really well at the show. I loved the pictures, and wish I could give your little terrier a head-scratch - he looked as if he was enjoying his outing. I'll bet he got plenty of attention.
Thank you everyone I couldn't find anywhere to reply to. Virgina is the latest. I'm bad at remembering which are 'no reply' bloggers.
What an incredibly gorgeous piece!
What is a "no reply blogger" ???
oh how wonderful. I don't think you should be scared, you always seem to get the balance of embroidery perfectly right
You have added so much beauty to this felt by stitching on it. The colors glow.
