Once upon a time I worked with someone whose daughter wanted to give up piano lessons.
Her mother said "I've told her she must carry on until she starts enjoying it''.
Well...thats what I've been doing and at last.....at LAST....I have derived some enjoyment again from my sewing. The pieces in the last post were ok..and then I cut them out which I hadn't planned to do.
I seem to work better on 'modules'. Perhaps I'm hooked on brooch mode?
Then suddenly...ping!
I started to like them. I was back in my stride.
Some are better than others and some have been here before.
I seemed to get my 'vocabulary' back.
So does that mean its really just more of the same?
Yes yes, I know the colours are the same, because I'm working towards creating the essence of this
The Burren and the sea.
Today I made some more interesting shapes in darker colours but the photos were so awful I can't really show them properly. I'll save them for next time.
Does anyone know anything about perspex for display purposes?
Thank you for sticking with me on my blog through thick and thin, leaving lovely comments and helping me through a difficult patch. I'm still not ready for the brooch making treadmill again yet, but I am out of the tunnel and the light is dazzling.
Spring is here.
I know that, because I left a cup in the garden overnight and there was a slug in it this morning.

ReplyDeleteCan I just say too, that I'm actually quite pleased to hear you are working with those same lovely shapes in darker colours. I've often admired your brooches, and I have two rather formal dresses for work in black and dark grey, and a tiny brooch would look so lovely with them, so I'm looking forward to seeing your 'darks'.

Pleased you are finding your feet again! Have a look at www.bayplastics.co.uk for all things perspex. I've had a perspex box from them and they cut to size. Pieces can be glued together to make boxes etc.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours which really do remind me of the seaweed/pebbles and the sea. Summer is just around the corner - I saw 2 swallows yesterday!! So glad you are back on form.
ReplyDeleteThey have more life as separate pieces if you ask me ... which I know you didn't!!! You can aways make them merge when you stitch them to the backing etc, if that's the way your going. It was like they were emerging from the fabric - mearly chrysalis' now their butterflies. The colours are just stunning and really have a feel of the landscape. Hooray hooray! I LOVE the colours of the pieces and can see exactly how they represent the photos - brilliant. I once nearly drank a slug. When camping few years back, husband filled kettle in the evening but forgot to flip down the whistling spout. The next morning he made tea and I nearly swallowed a boiled slug that had crawled into the kettle overnight. Now THAT is eeuuuwwwww!

ReplyDeletePerspex is a brand name, the material is actually acrylic. I work with plastics (in the display industry!) so let me have it, what do you want to know and I'll try and help you out!
Bridget Riley and Patrick Heron did stripes over and over and over - I shouldn't worry about it. Are YOU sick of it, that's the thing. And when it's time to move on to somethimg else, you'll know.Glad you got back into the swing of things again,it can be so hard to work through those patches.

ReplyDeleteI know a felt artist who uses perspex to show her work - two sheets with the piece sandwiched in the middle and four long screws to keep the sheets together. It seems to work well - you can have the piece floating in mid air

ReplyDeleteLove the new pieces Jackie - and the colours are just right! You asked about perspex. We went to look at Mary-Clare Buckle's work in her gallery in Abbotsbury and she uses perspex to mount some of her pieces of felt. She sort of sandwhiches her felt between two layers of perspex and there are four corner attachments that fix it to the wall, leaving a gap for the light to go behind the felt.
