Here's the book I bought in Ireland which I threatened to add two posts ago but forgot.
Its full of lovely close up photographs. see for yourself.
I've had a go at re creating the atmosphere and colours in felt , but what spoke to me wouldn't say anything to a viewer so its not being shown here.
However I took the colours and tried more.
This is the result. A work in progress. To be embroidered
a bit like this.
But its such a struggle.
What seemed to tumble out of my head once now has to be dug for, deeply, .....forced..much like rhubarb.
Rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb.

I can see why you bought that book Jackie - the photos are amazing - so many lovely colours and textures, and so much inspiration. I find it incredibly difficult to recreate nature in textiles the way I 'feel' it but am compelled to keep trying. I love your felt piece and the stitched shapes. Keep digging deep and don't give up and please show us what you get.

ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely photographs. My husband and I have been to Ireland 5 or 6 times and have seen pretty much the entire green isle. County Clare is one of our favorites.

I completely second Heather's post. I've got some pictures of cells I want to create and it's hard.
ReplyDeleteA perfect book for a little inspiration - but the talent is all yours and you have loads of it!! Just go with the flow - do what gives you pleasure and satisfaction - it might take you into whole new areas - who knows.

ReplyDeleteSometimes it is worth persevering even when creating is difficult, and you've got an interesting start there, which certainly feels as though it grows from the inspiration you describe.

ReplyDeleteThe book is absolutely amazing and I can certainly see tons of inspiration will come from it. And don't force your creativity Jackie - just do what feels okay at the moment. Perhaps revisit some of your old pieces and see what happens. Try playing with something for just 15 minutes (set the timer). Give yourself permission to stop at the end of 15 mins. or if you're feeling good about it, carry on for awhile longer. Don't try to force yourself.

I was just amazed to read this post tonight Jackie and see that you have taken inspiration for your felting from some of the same natural surfaces as I do! It wasn't the fact that we chose the same inspiration for our starting point (I live in Ireland and what's not to inspire about the rugged west coast!) but rather the fact that I was finishing a section of the new felting book I am writing with English felter Chrissie Day and this is EXACTLY the topic I was covering today, water splashed rock and pebbles. I just LOVE the way you have chosen to stitch into and embellish the felt, wish that I could sew with even an eigth of the talent that you possess!
