Erupting

YEY!!! BIG VOLCANO SALE ON ETSY!!!
Yes for the rest of this month everything yes everything will be subject to a 10% refund in my etsy shop .
Yes that 10% off everything in my ETSY SHOP.
REMEMBER!!
10% of EVERYTHING!!

Whew! Does that get the message over?
Would I make it as a Saatchi and Saatchi ad campaign designer? I think not.
Seriously, I was a bit worried when I suddenly realised when I was sitting here feeling smug because hadn't booked a holiday(but of course very sympathetic with those stuck in foreign places), and it hit me that etsy will suffer due to no airmail capability. So to encourage those who don't mind waiting until the dust settles I thought I'd have a bit of a sale.

Talking of eruptions and dust and so on.. I am sitting here feeling very odd.

I have had a TRULY HORRIBLE evening on etsy.
I was just checking how many hearts I had on etsy and realised I only need 7 to get to 1000 so I was feeling quite smug when I received a very unpleasant message from an ETSY seller who I had NEVER seen..or at least if I had I didn't remember, accusing me of infringement of her designs.
I canvassed a few of my online buddies in all corners of the globe to get their opinion and they all agree that my work is my work. How could I have copied when I hadn't even seen it?I agree that there are one or two similarities but its pure coincidence.
Do you remember this post?
And the handwriting thing..I hadn't seen the other blog that mentioned it until I read about it afterwards on Arlee's blog, but happened at the same time as I thought of it.
But to be asked not to make
'Leaves with the lines round them with what looks like sewing pins sticking out of them, and the double lines divided into sections'

anymore because they were what she does was the pits.
Remember I hadn't seen her work.
I felt like I'd been hit by a lava flow I can tell you.
Well I'll tell you how bad it is...I haven't eaten and it takes some doing to put me off my food.

  1. If she is going round trying to stop everyone who uses leaf shapes to stop she is going to be a very busy lady!

She needs to get a life, methinks.

  2. Jackie, eat and then create and create what you want to create and what you have created forever. I have been aware of your work since when? my first year City and Guilds centuries ago and you have your own unique style that is as evident now as it was then. Who owns the copyright of a leaf???????

  3. oh...and a great mosaic, get it on flickr

  4. PA LEEEESE! She's an ass. Jealous - that's what she's about. You have a very distinctive look to your work - she's dreamin' if she thinks her work is even on the same level. And where has she been for the last two years when your work has been all over the web and in magazines? Now look what you've done Jackie - you've got me all riled up! :O)

  5. I'm so sorry! That must be a terrible feeling, I can only imagine. Your work is so unique, it expresses a distinctive voice. I just wanted to emerge from the lurking shadows to say that I really love your work, it always makes me so happy, and I want to encourage you to have a cookie and a mug of tea, and go right back to making your work tomorrow.mantspr

  6. Totally agree with Celia (and I'm sure everyone else who will leave a comment here)!! Does this woman think that only one person has an idea all over the world, and that's it? She'd be crazy to think so.
It's been researched and catalogued that when something is invented, it turns out that there have been other individuals the world over, that have had that idea swimming in their heads for probably the same amount of time, but it just needs one to get there first! So go eat something Jackie, comforted in the fact that there may well be others out there having the same brilliant idea that you've already had!! You and Silverpebble are shining examples of this strange phenomenon.
.....and I'll bet yours looks the best!!!! Perhaps she has copied you??? Also agree with Mary that she is jealous. Probably knows yours looks better.

  7. As Mary said - she's an ass. AND she has to be just plain jealous that your work is so much better than hers. She definitely needs to realize that the world does not spin around her axis and that God (or Mother Nature, depending on you viewpoint) invented leaves in the first place and there's no way she can have a copyright on THAT!!
    Hugs to you.

  8. that's a shame, there's room for everyone to be creative without possessiveness. As far as I know there is no copyright on leaves, they are all around us and we can interpret them how we like, can't we? It's not like you are selling her product. What a shame that has spoilt your day, if anything two like minded people could be doubly creative - she has lost an opportunity there as I have always found that working with other creative people stretches both of us and produces new ideas. I think your work is very unique, not least in the colours you stick to.

  9. So sorry this is making you feel bad Jackie ............ guess somebody has not taken the time and trouble to read ALL of your blog like myself and many others!!!!!!!! xxx

  10. Oh poor you. Don't let her get to you. You have a lot of people who follow your blog and love what you do. Have the confidence in the gorgeous work you produce. There is bound to be similarities with work somewhere out there in the world...it's a big place and we all get inspiration from what we see around us. Jealousy is an awful thing.
    Hugs,
    A x

  11. Hi Jackie, just read this post with fury! pay NO attention - I sell jewellery on etsy and yes there are soooo many similar items there. It makes it difficult to be individual!
The thing is there is HUGE amounts of room for everyone to do their own thing. Your work is beautiful and very unique.
    Now go and EAT cake!
    Best regards
    Deborah

  12. Don't worry about it sweetie! We all know and instantly recognise your work. We know you don't copy and that those mysterious and curiouser designs come from your own creativity. Try to forget it and have a big cake with your coffee :o)

  13. no no no! don't let the nasty person put you off your food! You just got caught in the lava flow of a jealous, bitter, angry sad person. Pity her! Your work is unique and so beautiful. Cake is a good panacea, don't let this person put you off xxxx

  14. Your work is beautiful and has it's own unique signature that is very much YOURS. Whoever she is, she is undoubtedly suffering from envy syndrome. . Go eat and create.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh for goodness sake. Things are bound to look similar but everyone puts their own stamp on things. She just sounds cranky.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Silly woman!!! Not you... her! Does she really think she can have the exclusive right to use leaves as her design source. Go and treat yourself to a cake and make some more of your beautiful designs.

  17. Jackie, your work is so identifiably 'your work' that you really, truly have nothing to worry about. It must have been horrible to get that message though :(

(I remember when I first saw monkeys wearing hats - I thought I was the first to think of monkeys in hats, but of course I wasn't. Then I worried that people would think I 'copied' them, when I didn't at all. It's a fraught business!)

  18. Don't worry Jackie ....it's obviously someone who is REALLY small minded ....that is the most ridiculous thing I've heard ....we all get inspiration from all around us...and sometimes we come up with similar ideas..thats life...but this is someone who needs to get a life and get on with her own creating....Just buy yourself the biggest bar of chocolate and get on your sewing machine ....I wouldn't even try and answer the emails.....Lorna x

  19. I'm sorry you have had this nasty experience, and as everyone says it's so mean minded- unnecessary and un-called for. Your work charts a clear path and wherever it leads you, you'll have got there on your own! xx

  20. Hi, sorry about your Etsy experience. I don't get it either.Your stuff looks pretty dang original to me!

I thought that I had added myself to the handwriting project so if you could add me to the list I would be happy. I couldn't see where to post a comment on that page for some reason now.
    Thanks,
    Kim

  21. Some people just go around looking for and making trouble Jackie. I once had an encounter with someone who had the same name as me - she was most put out that people thought my work was hers at exhibitions even though we do not operate in exactly the same area. The fact that I had had my name for about 20 more years than she had had hers, seemed to have escaped her! Try to ignore the unpleasantness and keep making your beautiful and very individual pieces, and good luck with your sale.

  22. Jackie ... I would just like to add to the support you have received on this post.

Since the day I came across your work on Flickr, over two years ago now, I have admired your stunning art and particularly the influence of the 50's ... you have never copied anyone, I know this for a fact, because you don't have to.
You are a professional artist in every sense. Unique and inspirational, that's what you and your work are.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh Jackie! What a shame! I know there is quite a bit of copying and infringement does happen on Etsy, but like everyone else commenting here, I'm sure your work is unique, because I can spot it anywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Stop worrying NOW (and eat something)! If you have both accidentally come up with the same take on a leaf ... so what?? Let's face it there is a LOT of copying goes on, but for the most part you couldn't do much about it if somebody copied yours could you? Tell her that its pure coincidence and then ignore everything. Your work is so distinctive, and as someone else has said I can spot it anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jackie, your work is so yummy and distinctive, it's about the most recognisable of anyone I know....

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would know your work anywhere Jackie, it is most definitely 'you'. Silly woman. Anyway, hasn't she heard of Cosmic Conciousness?

    ReplyDelete
  27. That woman's request smells like brimstone. We all know what brimstone smells like. (it rhymes with new)

    Good grief!

Go this instant and eat something lovely..

    ...and drink wine.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Jackie, I have never seen anyones work to rival yours in anyway, so it must be a case of jealousy over your talents. Go forth and create!I love your work and there will be no other......oh, and eat chocolate and drink wine!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with Emma Pebble - eat something lovely and drink lovely wine too and if you're still not feeling better add a large helping of chocolate!

What a silly woman to accuse you of copying! Absolutely ridiculous!

  30. How awful I would say your work is pretty unique to you. I would probably recognise it in a 'line up' , but there is always a bit of 'inspiration' shared around and no need for anyone to be unpleasant. Hope you have had a few big dinners in the meantime.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So sorry about your rotten experience, obviously can't take the competition. Be proud of what you do, go eat, drink and let her do the fretting.

I love to hear from anyone who reads..so go on...leave one!
I apologise for not being able to reply to all of them. It makes it harder if you are 'no reply', but I do value each comment.
