The Secret life of Christmas Decorations.

Each year Christmas arrives more quickly than it did the year before.

Is it really 12 months since I got the decorations out?

Each one is laden with memory.
(I'm sorry the pictures are so dark but it didn't seem appropriate to use flash.)

This is one of two paper lanterns from my childhood tree, at least 57 years old and the inspiration for these.

Next is one of a batch we made in 1977, our first Christmas together when we had no money to buy many Christmas decorations. We used a cardboard tube cut into rings and cooking foil.

These are from a trip to Copenhagen in 1984 when I was pregnant with my second son.

And here are my two lovely peg dolls new this year from Sesga, and they will become part of the history of my tree decorations..

This is what happens to your poinsettia when an old blind dog has a good wag a bit too near it.

This is my first blog Christmas and I must say how much I have enjoyed my first 8 months.
The pleasure I have had from reading your blogs has been matched by the friendship support and encouragement you have given me.

I've celebrated, agonised, moaned, complained, puzzled, rejoiced..and you have been ready for me with your comments ..most of which have made me smile and feel grateful to have discovered this amazing world.

I wish all of you my dear friends, readers, contacts, wherever you are, a very peaceful and Happy Christmas.

xx
(Sorry..that sounds so corny..but I really mean it)

  2. Hi, I love the secret life of your Christmas decorations. Isn't it strange how we remember where we purchased or how we made each one, yet I can't remember to get the things on my shopping list. Well if I'm honest I forget to take the list itself. We remember the things we treasure that give us such happy memories! Have a fabulous Christmas. See you in blog land in the New Year! xx

  7. Gosh, can't believe you've only been blogging for less than a year, you're everywhere I look!! I meant that in a good way...
I have decorations that are family treasures, even one my mother gave to me that she bought when I was born (many moons ago)!
A pity I can't find them yet, soul mate says we will manage some decorations up before daughter arrives at week-end but I'm not holding my breath.
    Peace and happiness

  14. A very happy christmas to you too!!

Each of our tree ornaments has a story too, wonder if they'll all still be around in 57 years!?

My Mum's friend from uni would send a handmade tree decoration to each of us children (there are five of us) each year. Mum gave me 'mine' in a little bag soon after I moved out. It was one of the nicest things she's ever done!!

And here's to more blogging in 2009!

  22. I think it sounds lovely, Jackie. I'm so glad that I discovered blogging and you too. Oh and yes, I forgot to mention on my last comment how much I like your snow effect. I had it on my old Snow Update page from when I lived in Colorado. (It pre-dates blogs or it would have been one!)

I'm glad that you had a lovely Christmas. We did too. And my mind is still boggled by all of that ironing! WOW!

Much love and big HUGS, Marilyn

  23. I have enjoyed every moment of this blogging adventure too despite a few days when I've felt that I've opened my big mouth and shared too much. As you say there are always warm comments to make one feel comfortable with what one shares. I'm gratefull for your many warm comments Jackie and have so enjoyed popping over here to experience the creative buzz and then go "home" feeling inspired. Hope your festive season is everything you want it to be. Enjoy! Replenish! I look forward to another year of your humorous, yet inspiring posts.

I apologise for not being able to reply to all of them. It makes it harder if you are 'no reply', but I do value each comment.
