In the haitus between the great thrash for Yarndale, and the coming thrash for Christmas, I have been musing on my work.
At Yarndale, I had a lovely appreciative couple who loved my work.
However the woman said though she liked the brooches, they were too big for her and she wouldn't wear one.
The next day she came back and found and bought this one ,
much smaller, and one of only two I had left from an old batch.
2008 in fact!
2008 in fact!
They were 'mid-century' inspired and very popular.
I blogged about my work back then and included this picture.
and this.
I went on to make lots and lots more.
The base was silk fibre paper which was a joy to stitch on but a beast to oversew the edges.
I went on to create a few pieces of wall Art in the same vein.
They appeared in Quilting Arts Magazine.
I sent them all the way to America to be photographed .
Exciting times!
I made little round ones...I sold all of them but one..which I sold at.....???
Yes, Yarndale.
Then I discovered I could make the same patterns in felt.
This was the prototype.
And that was the beginning of a whole new production line.
But they are big and quiet hard to make smaller.
So I'm thinking 'back to the future'?
They are very pretty.
I have an idea.
And new skills I didn't have back then.
Watch this space.

I'm definitely watching because I know it's going to be good, whatever you come up with. Nice to see some of the pieces from earlier on again too.
That is honestly the only reason i don't have one of your brooches. Unfortunately they are just too big for me. Out of all the designs i still like your leaves and hearts the best. :) I think they are so unique and one of a kind. I just love them. hugs!deb
LOVE the retrospective! And I can't wait to see what comes next!
I've always thought those early ones were gorgeous. Hmm, would it be possible to sew a facing on the edges that were flipped towards the back and either stitched or fused?
I love your work and have two of your smaller brooches.I think a selection of sizes would suit a whole host of people.Look forward to seeing your developments.
It's always good to revisit old ideas in the light of new skills!
Gorgeous. I'm not surprised they sell like hot cakes.

I think you are onto a winner!!
Piękne guziki.
I also love the leaves the best ( and have one!). Loved your retrospective. I will be watching as I so appreciate your work. Thank you
Looking forward to your back to the future pieces J. x
All I know is there's nowt so queer as folk - delicious pieces.
Excellent! I love your work, past and present - and no doubt future, too!
Love the ‘petite’ brooches and the gorgeous colour combinations, especially chartreuse with wild pink and aqua with gold – complementary but such a pop of colour. Just the thing to brighten up our approaching sombre UK winters…
lovely post Jackie - like seeing old friends. lol
They are beautiful Jackie! My favourites are the green collection in one of the first photos - absolutely exquisite! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next :)
xx
Whatever you decide to make will be lovely I am sure! x Jo
