Accountability

Its been ages since I've posted and I don't know why.
I'm back down to earth after a tremendous Birthday week. Thank you for all the birthday wishes.
Perhaps my life has been too nice to spend time on t'internet.

I feel very contented at the moment.
I daren't say that too loudly, as my friend Margaret says 'When the sun is out and your sails are full of wind, thats when your ship get blown onto the rocks.' Its so true but just now all is well. We are off to Dorset on Saturday and have resident house sitters who want to come for a little holiday so the cats will be well looked after.
I'm so looking forward to our visit to Dorset, staying in a teeny weeny cottage near Lyme Regis.

Our exhibition is going so well! I feel so buoyed up every time I visit. Lots of visitors, great comments, lovely place.
But into every life a drop of rain must fall. My drop of rain is only small but very boring. I've been doing my accounts. My assistant was no use at all. (At least he wasn't licking his nether regions in this one.)
I gathered everything from bags, coat pockets, decorative midwinter casserole dish with lid in danger of dropping onto the floor by being too full of proofs of postings, cupboards, shelves and those safe places and it amounts to this.
A big heap of disorganised clutter. I wouldn't mind but I earn so little I rarely pay tax, and still I send my figures to my husbands accountant and he just fills in the form and says 'that'll be a small fortune please'. I  do all the work. I don't have the confidence to know what I can and can't claim for.( Please don't try to help!)
So, I get easily distracted when I have to sort it all out. I take pictures of stuff you've already seen..
and then when I get really fed up I cover it all up in this bit of nuno felt I made a couple of weeks ago.
I tried out my new camera. Its made the purples a bit bluer than they should be. Time to tweak I think.
I apologise that this looks like a pair of bosoms.

So back to the accounts. Nearly done.

I had my last 'One to One' (tuition session) at the Apple store and had expressed an interest in stop motion animation. He suggested I took a few photos, so I did, (76) and he showed me how to put it into a slide show so here it is.  I ask for your understanding..its my first, I did it without a tripod and just with what was to hand. I learnt a lot.

I've also started road testing my kindle with my first e-book,
I thought it was a nice lighthearted start. I like the lightweight ease of the Kindle, and the way its so clear to read.
I have a few problems...I keep accidentally grasping it by the next page or previous page buttons.
If I want to flick back a few pages to remind myself of something I have to go through all the pages so a Russian novel is out..all those names.
And you can't swat flies with it.

  2. Accounts - Yuk! - even with such a lovely assistant. I don't mind how many times you show us the same piece of work and the Nuno bosoms are gorgeous - wonderful textures and colours. Glad the exhibition is going so well. I am very impressed with your video - that's clever. I can understand that the Kindle is great for some, but I still like an old fashioned book.
Have a great time in Dorset and give my love to Lyme Regis.

  3. I console myself that at least all my bits of paper are in one plastic bag... except for those stuffed in my purse or lost in the bottom of my handbag. And those under piles of paper on my desk. Still... someting to look forward to in January!

  4. The video is very good. I'm with Heather I think the old fashioned book is best, but will probably give in eventually, I remember saying I didn't want a mobile phone, but here I am in bed writing this on my iPhone, oh well!!! Have a good time in Lyme Regis.

  7. The felts are always lovely (and they look like pomegranates to me) with wonderful textures!

  8. Ouch - I was supposed to be doing my tax return today not reading blogs. I wouldn't mind but the tiny bit of tax I pay them comes straight back as a credit. How about if they just didn't take it in the first place? Great thing about a Kindle is that the wind doesn't blow the pages about, leaving your hands free to hold the ice cream. Glad to hear the exhibition going well, enjoy your break.

  12. All lovely ... but don't remind me ... I have to do my books and my husband's books in August ... probably on the hottest day of the year when I really would rather be on a picnic rug with a real book looking over the cliffs at the seals and the glinting sea water at Godrevy

Hope you have a fantastic time at Lyme Regis (a beautiful little place ... would like to go there again myself)

See you soon, meanwhile hugs xo

  15. I'm so glad you're feeling 'up'. already commented on film (wonderful).
kindle does take a bit of time to get used to, I love that i can increase the size of the font so I don't have to wear my specs, the screen is fab in bright sunlight(so I can read on the beach). But , yes, I still find it difficult if I want to go back etc.
But, the fact that I can read books at a reasonable price and I don't have to wait for them to be delivered, is marvelous..
    take care Jude
    ps
have a wonderful time in Dorset and just think, you can pack alot more goodies into your suitcase because the books are on your Kindle1!

  18. What a wonderful post - you can show us your pieces of work as many times as you like -they will still look fabulous! The video is very impressive too. Have a great holiday in Lyme Regis - I have always been fascinated by that name! The Kindle would be marvellous on long plane flights, but I still like a proper book to hold at home! Cheers

  19. I've just done mine too (books) and like your idea of covering all those pesky documents with your beautiful creations! So impressed with the animation too - clever you. x

  20. Oh dear, accounts are never fun. Still, the animation worked rather well, I think, especially for a first attempt!

  22. I'm sitting here practically in tears (of laughter) at the thought of you going around trying to swat flies with your Kindle (sorry, warped sense of humour here). That and the image of your butt licking cat was enough to put me over the edge. I need to get a life, you say? As for taxes - I shudder and, like you, bundle the whole lot off to somebody who knows what they're doing. It's SO worth the price!!

  23. I am an accountant by profession so I am doing all the accounting stuff of my own business.

    I love watching the video.

  27. Thanks for commenting Jackie, glad you are feeling upbeat, you should say it loudly, there's enough doom and gloom going on. I'm asking anyone interested to have a quick look see at my old work and make an offer basically - either through the blog or flickr. I just want to move it along to someone who likes it, I want to move in other directions at the moment, fresh starts and all that.

Anyhow, have a lovely time in Lyme Regis, hope the weather holds for you,
    Nicky

  28. Oh Jackie, that stop motion is utterly fantastic! I wish I could do that! I keep meaning to say 'well done' on acquiring the camera - I'm sure you'll do brilliantly with it. Just twiddle all the twiddly bits and see what you get. :) xx

  31. I have the same bookkeeping troubles. I kept everything in a spreadsheet, and accidentally saved it as the wrong name document, lost it all, and now have to go through my stacks of receipts and do it over. I love your work. Looking is my treat for being productive.

I apologise for not being able to reply to all of them. It makes it harder if you are 'no reply', but I do value each comment.
