Time and Weight

Since 30th March when I overindulged on cheese and potato pie with a pastry crust followed by sticky toffee pudding and felt horrible, I have been eating 'healthy'.
(There was a reason for the pie..a request from my friend for her birthday..she wanted 'plain')
But since then, neither a speck of chocolate, nor a grating of cheese, has passed my lips.
Not much wine except one glass on Saturday and three glasses on Sunday has been taken.
I have eaten a mountain of raw veg with less than a molehill of Houmus and Pitta ...
MINI pitta that is.
BROWN mini pitta
Kept other bread to an absolute minimum.
Much fish has been consumed, as well as small amounts of brown rice, wholemeal pasta, chicken
and glasses of water to bridge the gaps.
I have walked quite a lot.

But.....

I HAVE NOT LOST ONE OUNCE
I know its only 9 days but I haven't lost an ounce. I get on the scales every morning but there it is ********and a half stone. I won't tell you what the ******** is, its too embarrassing.
However,
On Wednesday we went out to celebrate number two sons birthday.
I ate a pizza, a starter of some small fowl on lettuce , one or two bits of bread sticks, and one small glass of house red.No pudding.
I weighed myself the next morning and ........I PUT ON THREE POUNDS.
Is that fair?

Here is number two son last Wednesday, his 24th Birthday, on the steps outside his flat in Manchester. (Just out of interest to any Mrs Gaskell fans, her house is next door)

I had a maudlin session looking through old photos

and listening to this.

I got a bit weepy.

Aaah Jackie, I am so sympathetic. About everything... the weight gain, the time going fast, the grown-up sons... I too am prone to maudlin sessions with the photo albums - HOW CAN IT HAVE GONE SO FAST?? How can those days have gone. Those little boys. Just the thought of it can make me weepy. Well done you for eating healthily though - even if you didn't lose weight your body will be grateful. I plan to start being healthy again AFTER Easter... And hopefully I will be cooking dinner for both my sons, hurray! By the way, your youngest son lives only a mile or two from us so I will send happy mum thoughts to him whenever I go past :-) Have a good Easter Jackie <3

I know how you feel. Our children are growing up so quickly. I'm having the same bad luck with my weight and the doctor says it's my age mostly and to walk more. He also said not to deprive myself so I'm not going to and see what happens.
I hope you have a wonderful Easter. We are without children this weekend so it will very quiet here.
Son number two is quite handsome!

Oh don't start me off!!
My youngest, my baby, will be 30 in Nov!
And of course the oldest is getting married in Sept and is planning to make me a 'ya-ya' 9months after that, if all goes to plan...
Regarding the weight...humph!
All last week I was losing weight, stepping onto the scales every couple of days. Finally, on weigh-in day, thinking I'd lost at least 3lbs, can you imagine my mood when the scales lied, they did! They said I had not lost a bean!!And I'm Mother of the Bride on Sept 5th......ahhh!
Go on eat an easter egg for me, please..

Oh, Jackie! Bless you, even with the 'dreaded lurgi' I only managed to lose three pounds - and it's all back on now. No wine or biscuits over Lent (can't wait to get at that screwtop!) I thought the weight would drop off? I think the whole world will be stuffing themselves with chocolate on Sunday! Never mind. And never mind about the other thing either - they grow up and have babies and you get grandchildren!!! And, if you're really lucky, great-grandchildren. What I can't understand is why Blogger isn't even recognising me as 'maggik1' today - but you know who I am.

It is a well known fact that scales are evil and tell lies... horrible lies! There is also the well known time lapse factor that it takes at least two weeks for weight loss to register and take effect. Hang on in there!

Gina's right!! But don't ask me - I put everything I managed to lose BACK ON, and more...yes, I gave up. Don't give up!!

Have just had a LOVELY time catching up! love seeing your progressions with felt and the embellisher. Tells its own story. As for growing up of little ones, mine are still small, but recently we watched M Mia...you know that song Meryl sings, about your little girl leaving for school in the early morning? How she watches her grow up and away from her (as they should, of course)? Well, I can't listen to it. Just makes me cry bucketloads, and the girls just sit and stare at me, asking what's wrong. What's wrong? One day, they'll leave me...!!!!!

I have lost a LOT of weight recently without trying - I wans't well and couldn't be bothered to eat much...same food but smaller portions.

Now I am feeling better I am keeping the same regime - eat whatever I want but not so much....and it's working...

PAH on the scale! Paste a picture and some new numbers on it, make something lovely to wear and fuhgeddaboud it :}

Thanks for the Fairport Convention reminder--haven't thought of them in years.

Do not weigh yourself every day! Just once every week. I doubt seriously if the three pounds were real...just phantom numbers!! I am currently filling Easter boxes with chocolates and feeling quite deprived!! I simply must have one chocolate bunny, right??

Everyone says how fast your children will grow, but you never believe them. My oldest has been twenty for over a month now, yet I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it and often find myself wistful for when they were little.... just to be able to go back in time for a few hours... to hold their little hands and to once again read to them, all snug under a blanket on the couch... (sigh.) Take comfort in that your son is a handsome young man and you did a good job in raising him up.

As for the weight gain, it is very unfair. It also make me wonder if you have you had your thyroid checked? My sister had the same dilemma, and it turned out to be her thyroid. She take medicine for it now, and her metabolism and ability to lose weight is once again normal.

Tell me about it.....I'm with you all the way.......weight, food, food, food, kids, food, eating less, food, I could cry now about the food, weight and the kids.

That was'nt a very intelligent, helpful comment, but that's what generally goes around my head for most of the day and night! With wine added every now and again.

You have two crackers by way of sons Jackie x

Oof that song made me rather wistful and teary too, and I'd never heard it before!

Bloomin' scales. Burn 'em I say - terrible invention. I find big stress the best diet. I don't seem to have the same enjoyment in the chippy trips when things are tough and I think I burn a stack off with worrying. Now that things are starting to settle I think the old belly is erm, well expanding a little. Happy=round. Sad=angular. I know which I'd rather right now! Crack open the Easter eggs - they scientifically proven to make you smile - it's the dopamine, dontcha know.

hang on in there, it takes time. It is also possible to eat to little and then the body thinks yr starvin it and it hangs on to EVERYTHING. Luckily my husband knows about this kind of thing and so I get expert advice. Stuff it , have some chocolate every now and then, think how nice it will taste.

I can also sympathise with all of it Jackie. It's so much easier to put on than take off isn't it?
I had a tear in my eye this morning too when I found a scrapbook my 2 sons drew pictures and wrote little stories in on a holiday in 1976! Where does the time go?

I have given up dieting - it makes you fat. I have been on various diets for the past 40 years and weigh more now than I ever have. I do try to eat healthily and probably consume more than I should, but I am cursed with a hearty appetite. My 'little boy' will be 52 this autumn - I find that almost unbelievable. I was about to say it's a pity they have to grow up, but we still get on very well and he'll always be special. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy a few treats without guilt.

Oh I feel your pain Jackie! This week I haven't eaten enough to keep a rabbit alive and I've GAINED 2 pounds!!!

My kids are very much still at home - 6 year old twins, and an 11 year old. There are days when I can't wait for them to grow up and get out of here so I can get on with some artwork. It's good to read posts like yours to remind me to try to enjoy it! On the other subject, we don't have scales and I mostly wear wrap-around skirts so I eat what I like and don't know whether I'm getting fatter or thinner!

Awww Jackie ... c'mere (((((huge hug))))). I love that track - must put it on the blog's mp3 player at some point. My daughter had her 12th birthday yesterday - I don't know where those years have gone. It seems like only last week that she was born. The world is speeding up!

As for the scales ... just keep on doing what you're doing with the food and it'll shift eventually. A friend of mine has had huge success via using the food combining method of dieting (no proteins with carbs).

I'm fighting the same battle. I just have to think chocolate truffle and a pound leaps on board. It's just not fair is it?

Threadspider said...

Oh Jackie I sympathise-I'm fighting the old album syndrome as we speak. As for Fairport-it was my "Song of the week" when I left teaching.Bit of a mixed blessing, that.

the only way I can ever be good is not by what I eat or don't it's be adding on walking and LOTS of it. (I hate the gym...)
and we swear our stunning young lady (15!) was just born a few years ago....who does know where the time goes!?!?!

It is a well know fact that overnight gains of multiple pounds are entirely illusional, particularly if one has been eating one's veggies. As a lapsed dieter myself, I am shocked that you have not grasped that principle, along with it's corollary that food eaten when standing does not count. Please stop beating yourself up. :-)

Hi,
consolation - all that exercise has created muscle which weighs heavier than fat. Once your muscles have adjusted, the weight will go - and as for three pounds of pizza etc, give it three days and check again - I think it will have gone - it is in temporary storage along with extra water from all those salty foods.

Dear Anonymous..thanks for that. I think I've blown it now though. I flipped on saturday with hot cross buns and chocolate eggs. I think 3 pounds may be a reality now!

ah photos ...
and little ones ... i know, a lesson to enjoy each day as it is with me ...
sorry to hear your 9 days of being good lead to a rapid grab of baddies when you ate them ... im guessing your very clever bod started holding on fearing famine of biblical proportions and WHAM
there you go
not fair ...
perhpas moderation and modest walking might do it, but (in small type) do it very slowely
